A wise rabbi recently told a story that may hit home for you. A gentleman pulled into a gas station in a new town and said to the attendant, “I am in the process of moving into town. Can you tell me what the people are like here?” The gas station attendant first asked him what the people were like back in his hometown. The man replied that they were rude, unfriendly, and snooty.

The gas station attendant told the man, “Unfortunately, that is exactly how the people are in this town.”

Soon, another man drove up to the gas station. He, too, said that he was moving to town. He also inquired what the people were like. Once again, the gas station attendant asked what the people were like from where he had just moved. The man replied that the people were considerate, helpful, and generous. The attendant exclaimed, “Well, I’ll be darned! That is exactly what the people are like right here!”

This simple story beautifully illustrates that you carry your attitude with you. Ask yourself this: Is your attitude just extra baggage weighing you down?

positive, life is positive.” —Terry Orlick
